With “Indian 2,” Director Shankar faces the daunting task of not only reviving a beloved character but also surpassing the legacy of the first film. Did he succeed? Let’s see now.

Story Plot - No spoilers

It is 2024 and India is paralyzed by issues like unemployment and corruption. Senapathy, now a centenarian returns to combat widespread corruption in the country. He teams up with Chitra (Siddharth), a young man who exposes corrupt politicians through internet videos. Just like prequel, Senapathy takes on corrupt businessmen and enemies.

Review

Kamal Haasan delivers a great performance as Senapathy. His portrayal of the aged vigilante is both powerful and nuanced, capturing the character’s complexity and moral convictions. Though, the make up looked flawed many times director Shankar managed to pull it off having a 106 year old protagonist. Siddharth’s performance as an aid to Senapathy was commendable.  The plot was  predictable and unbelievable at times- new wine in an old bottle. The film tries to strike a  balance between action and drama, keeping viewers interested. S. Shankar’s is back in business in his signature style of grand visuals and action sequences. The music, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and the background score elevates the tension and drama, while the song “Thatha Vararu” is only worth mentioning. The journey of  “Indian 2” concludes with a possibility  of “Indian3”. To sum up, Shankar’s direction in “Indian 2” is a technically impressive, delivering the action and visuals fans expect. Kamal Hassan fans would love it, others not that much.
